When Billy left to go fishing, he didn't know he would be the catch of the day.

Billy Clark has spent the last two years learning to depend on no one but himself. When he's kidnapped, he doubts his parents will even care. Now, whatever future he has is in the hands of a stranger. Even Billy isn't prepared for what the man has in mind.

The Secret Meadow edition by Judith Wells Alex McGilvery Children eBooks

Billy is like far too many children who lack the love and supervision to become the best they can be in life. This delightful short story feels like a kidnapping in the beginning and may require parental help in reading so children don't become frightened. It was well edited and the setup with the colorful chapter headings added to the quality of the book. The story provides hope in a world that sometimes feels hopeless to the children who suffer abuse and neglect. As an adult, I thoroughly enjoyed the book. As a child, I think I'd have preferred to see shorter paragraphs to help keep kids engaged through the stressful beginning.

This is a amazing short story! For 11 years this poor little lost soul had no one. Ended in
lots of love. Must read for really all ages.
This story leaves your heart happy. It takes lots of twists and turns bringing a young boy from a troubled, difficult life to someplace different. It gives your heart a lift in this troubled world we live in.
I loved this book. It kept me wanting to finish it and not put it down. Was a happy ending for a boy that was stuck in the life of his parents caring about themselves over him. Yes it is a short story, but I'm not a reader and I absolutely loved this book. And it kept the 9 year old boy in my home interested enough to start and finish reading aloud to me, so I can hear it again.
Without stopping. I'd recommend and hope she all write another soon.
The cover looks to be for a younger reader but the story is adventurous and exciting involving a kidnapping, a train, and a far off place. Probably best for readers age 8-12, but can easily be enjoyed by adults too.
Billy, like so many forgotten and abused children, deserved a second chance at a better life. The life, love, and happiness that he found in the secret meadow was a beautiful start to the rest of that life. I definitely enjoyed this story and will recommend it to others.
I really enjoyed reading this book as I was just as curious as the boy in it. It comes with a great storyline and ending that leaves you feeling hope and happiness. It makes me wish that this could be true in real life for those lost souls . It's nice to I have a good story that I can read to my kids!
This book will surely give children hope Knowing there's the possibility of a better place for them, especially if they're experiencing pain and suffering. Billy's adventure at first may seem terrifying as most new things can appear to be, but he later learns that there is happiness in this world too. I think this was the purpose of the story. I wish we could have felt more of his suffering in the beginning, to make his happiness in the end even stronger but as a whole, the hope in this little story was refreshing.
